Go Fuck Yourself! That’s what GFY stands for. Not in a mean way – in an encouraging way. This is where the porn industry meets to discuss, well, everything and anything they want to. It’s an open and free forum where you can sign-up, anonymously, of course, and talk about the ins and outs of running a porn empire. Whether you’re an affiliate marketer or you produce your own content, it doesn’t matter. This forum has literally no limits when it comes to porn business discussion. While there are many threads that worship porn for the faps and laughs, most threads on here are made by serious people who are focused on one thing – money.
If you’re an up and coming porn webmaster, you’ll want to join this website even if you never post anything. I’m sure they won’t mind. The kind of underground wisdom that gets shared on GFY is astounding. It’s not like these are trade secrets or anything. All of this information is publicly available. But, people don’t really know where to look for it. Well, it’s here on GFY for the world to see. Most people don’t really give a shit, but you really should. This site should be bookmarked and it should be the first thing you check every morning before you get back to work. They stay on top of current events and talk about damn near everything you’ll need to know in order to stay afloat. And, if something goes wrong in the porn industry, you’ll hear it here first.
Simple Thread Breakdown
They’ve got four major categories on this site, further segmented into topics. With over a million unique threads, it’s impressive that this system holds up. You’d think that they’d break shit down even further, but most of this site is about current events and staying on top of the news, so I guess the stack approach works. Their biggest topic contains more than 98% of all of their threads. It’s the business discussion topic and that’s roughly where you want to go daily to see what’s new. The other sections are extremely specific and you only really check them out when you need to.
So, let’s go through this list really quickly. Under the business section, there’s the discussion topic, which I just mentioned. Then, there’s the mainstream business discussion, which is a bit more formal and kind of sparse. Moving on, there’s the announcements topic, where everyone is free to send out PSAs for other members informing them of novelties regarding their own sites. You can post here in case you are launching a new promotion for your own marketing campaign. You’re more than welcome to use the site to your advantage. Finally, there’s the educational series, which is really tiny, but comes with a lot of information that can help you excel in this industry.
The Other Categories
Next up, we’ve got the business needs section. There’s quite a bit of content here. First up, there’s the aptly named content market, where you can literally buy, sell and trade pictures and video, mostly of smut, with other members of the forum. This section can be a bit confusing. It’s mostly aimed at requests. Like, if you’re looking for a specific type of content, you can post your request here and people will let you know where to find exactly what you need.
Then there’s a separate sell and buy forum, which is more of a trading platform where people transact directly, even though GFY plays no escrow role. They warn you to take precaution, because there’s literally no way for you to know who you’re dealing with and whether they’ll actually follow through with what was promised. Next up, there’s the traffic trades and gallery requests section. This is a great place to beg for traffic, especially when you’re an up and coming porn webmaster. You won’t always get free traffic, of course, but at the very least, people will respond with suggestions and opinions. You won’t get booed off the stage.
The final three topics are a bit irrelevant, but they’re necessary technicalities. There’s the contests and prizes section, which is self-explanatory. Then, there’s the rules and regulations topic. Read it. Read it carefully. You don’t want to get booted off the site. Finally, there’s the politics and more section, which… I don’t honestly know what to say about this section. It’s a politics section on a porn webmaster forum. I like to pretend that it doesn’t exist, but do feel free to enjoy yourself.
First Things First
Before you dive into GFY's main sections and start sharing your opinions with people, read most of the educational series. I’m not kidding. My site’s a great knowledge base, sure, but I do specific reviews for websites and services. I can’t explain the entire process of creating a successful porn website on here. I review services on a case by case basis. The dudes on GFY make actual long-form guides for specific parts of the porn site hosting process.
There’s an entire gigantic thread on here named SEO Hosting, for example. It’s informative and very well written, but that’s not where the buck stops. No, you get a ton of comments from other experts responding to this guy’s expert opinion. That’s the golden ticket here. You get to see what all the other experts think about this one dude’s thoughts and systematic breakdowns of a given topic. Instead of taking all the information at face value, you get debates right there in the thread, beneath the original post.
It’s kind of like those rare documentary panels where they get a bunch of genius science dudes to discuss quantum physics and even though you have literally no idea what they’re talking about, you take notes, because you think it might come in handy some day. Well, all the information on GFY is actually useful to you. It’s industry-specific. They could easily charge you for this content and it would be worth a premium. But, they don’t, because they’re that nice.
A Site of Legacy
GFY has been around since the year 2000. You remember the year 2000, right? When porn was still taboo and Google wasn’t the only viable search engine? Yeah, those days are long gone. But, GFY is still here. And, funnily enough, they’ve kept their design practically unchanged through the years. I like this a lot. Text and imageboard sites do not need to innovate, especially when the information they host is so fucking useful. But, the credit always boils down to the actual users who post these threads. I mean, they’re the ones bringing the knowledge to the knowledge base. This site wouldn’t exist without its fans.
I also really like their rules and regulations. You know, the ones that I told you to read before you do anything else on the site? Yes, those. They protect both GFY and all the users from abuse and any illegal activity. So, you won’t get anyone spamming racial slurs or coming after your mom’s ass in this forum. It’s all very civil. Well, most of the time. Users do frequently bicker at each other when they think they’re in the right, but that’s just par for the course. They’re arguing over serious business here. This place is one step away from being a stock trade floor.
Finger on the Pulse
I want to talk a bit about the business discussion thread, the big one with the near-million threads. I combed through a bunch of recent threads on there and I really liked what I saw. First of all, there seems to be a new post in the top 100 threads within the past day. They’re all super active. On top of that, most of them are super useful. If any large name in the industry has undergone a large change recently, you’ll see a post here. There’s also some mildly political information, but only when it pertains to the porn industry.
You also get technical information, opinion pieces, questions about selling content and reports of certain sites acting like they’re going out of business, long before they’ve made any announcement. I can’t state any names, but I’m seeing at least two recent threads about two different large names in the industry who may or may not be closing their doors. However, their home pages show no indication of this. So… it’s kind of like having insight into the future, all thanks to GFY. I wouldn’t hesitate to call this site a must-visit for any porn webmaster. Whether you learn from these people’s lessons or from their actions, there’s a wealth of information just waiting to be used to propel your porn empire into the stars.
