I'll start with a rhetorical question to a hypothetical statement.
"What?! You've never heard of Adult DVD Talk?! They have all of the best juicy gossips out of any existing internet forums."
Now, as you can figure out from the title, they specialize in hosting posts about the adult industry, but their subsections are about far more than DVDs and other hard copies of hot and heavy entertainment.
Besides being one of the biggest porn forums on the web, this is perhaps the only one I know of with a massive rooster of porn industry professionals, those who work on both sides of the camera and sometimes even interact with the 'average' posters. Of course, that does not mean that your favorite pornstar is necessarily going to talk to you, but they might.
While maybe it is not immediately obvious, there are certain advantages to being a member that can be greatly advantageous if you know how best to.
"'Okay, okay, How Will This Site Help Me?' You Are Asking?"
As my website is dedicated to helping all of you rising and soon-to-be Porn Webmasters, I am sure that you are questioning how you can leverage posting to a free forum with no way to pay for a special advert and the such like. The reasons, to my mind, and threefold:
Up-to-date Knowledge – If you are at all involved in the porn industry, whether you are a journalist, an influencer, a performer, and especially if you are a blogger, staying in the loop is critical. You cannot afford to be late since the world moves at the speed of the internet. Sure, you can find information anywhere, but this spot is updated by passionate perverts daily.
In fact, as an exercise, I checked a couple of times and found a single user who posted updates to more than a dozen posts all on the same day! The folks of fuck around here are dedicated to being jizz entertainment junky aficionados. So getting fresh information on this forum is virtually guaranteed.
General Insider Information – There are other forums all over the net where you can probably find other perverts who are obsessed with the skin business. I grant that that might be true, but there is nowhere else online that you will get juicy details from those who have insider access.
Hell, let's not forget that there are people who are deep, deep inside the business who can potentially confirm or deny specific details. Who knows, you might see someone who is a smut superstar that drops some bombs about one new development in the industry or another.
Potential Connections – This will only apply to a small number of people, but it is still worth writing about. To bring this up again, you are not entitled to have them talk to you, but if you have enough clout, you very well could get in touch with an industry professional. More likely, you could connect with a famous blogger or someone who has experience or is employed in the industry. I can say for sure that people have done this and started amazing business relationships.
Before You Post, Look Up The Rules
Now that we have gone over what makes this forum different and how it will help you, I feel the need to use this message board; let's move on to the rules.
They are not super complicated, or anything and they are certainly fair. However, there are some nuanced things that I feel the need to go over. I mean, I do not want to be responsible for sending readers over to Adult DVD Forum only to have them mad at me because someone acted like a jackass. I may be a smut peddler, but that doesn't mean I cannot be an ethical one. ;)
Anyway, here is a breakdown of the most important rules, in detailed but simplified form, for your convenience.
Stick to Porn Talk, Not Other Sex Work – You can talk about all of the porn that you want; that is a given. In addition, posting about related topics such as glamour and apparel modeling is allowed, and there are other spots on this forum to chat about other things. However, they have a staunch policy against talking about other forms of sex work.
I am pretty sure that you can talk about strippers and gogo dancers, but you cannot talk about prostitution or even escorting at all. This includes everything from public posts to private messages with others. This even includes talking about a porn performer who is suspected of or actively engages in escorting work. And do not try your luck trying to skirt the rules as the moderators do not have the "luxury of giving out warnings."
'Don't Be Evil' – As a general rule, it will get you absolutely nowhere to be a nuisance to others, and there is no reason to get defensive. I know for a fact that the community here is as friendly as described on the rule page, so there is no reason to think that you will get dogged on or can get away with bullying. Related to that, trolling and troll baiting are equally verboten, so don't do that because the moderators will likely deactivate your account.
And to address those who do, DO NOT BE ONE OF THOSE FOOLS WHO TYPES IN ALL CAPS. DO YOU SEE HOW 'YELLING' THROUGH THE INTERNET IS ANNOYING, right? ;)
Besides that, I would say that you should stay away from quoting entire posts when responding to someone else. Instead, quote snippets of text. Lastly, be sure not to repeat a post that someone has already added to the forum.
You Are Being Read – As I pointed out, there are producers, directors, and performers. Again, not guaranteed, but there is a chance that they might start interacting with you depending on the thread you start, or a particular post is witty. But don't go all obsessive fanboy or nose bleeding fangirl if they do. It is fucking creepy and might land you into hot water with the mods. As a rule, do not talk about people as if they are not reading your post because they very well could be.
Also, even if you do not care for Axel Braun's most recent comic parody or weren't thrilled with the latest model ThePornDude got laid by, you do not have to be an ass about it. Indeed, I would say that unless you are going to be very carefully tactfully, constructively critical, then don't post anything. Making an ass of yourself by talking shit about the models on this site will get you swiftly kicked off.
You Are Being Watched – As you might expect, there are pornstars and 'normal' people posting here. But everything is being recorded by the all-seeing eyes of the messageboard moderators. They are wonderful people from what I have seen and entirely fair.
There should not be a reason to get them involved as the community here is perfectly friendly as trolls and flamers do not last long. So, if your account is suspended or a post is removed, and you don't see why, stay calm and do the following;
"If you have an issue with how something has been moderated, send a polite email to the moderator or webmaster. Posting a bunch of crazed nonsense about democracy and free speech will only lead to the deactivation of your account."
As someone who has dealt with more than my fair share of crazies online, I could not agree more with that last sentence. Don't be a jerk on this forum or, worse, a reactionary!
Don't Be a Spammer – While it is tempting to do so on Adult DVD Forum, particularly on this subsection, do not be one of those people who want to get clout by flexing on others. I am sure that none of the mods will give you any trouble for talking about who you are and what you do if you are in the skin business. In fact, you can even leave ethical links to your own press releases or even your own website if it is relevant to the post.
They even encourage reciprocal links to Adult DVD Talk from your site, so everyone is helping everyone out. However, affiliate links are strictly forbidden. So if you think that you can get away with it, you won't, and your account will get the swift, stanky, virtual boot.
Careful About Your Avatar – As it turns out, their avatar policy is relatively flexible. In fact, they even state that they "prefer, r-rated images" if you can believe it. Then again, this is a forum dedicated to talking about smut; of course, you can believe it. You should follow a couple of guidelines when picking your profile picture.
First, you should read the Image Guide Policy, which you will be linked to on The Rules page. It all is pretty simple and can be summed up by not posting anything obscene (read: illegal) or anything 'too freaky.' Second, it is good practice to respect copyright and intellectual property, so watch where you source your image. You don't want to be one of those fools who steals the copyrighted photo of a pornstar on this forum, especially if she chats on this site.
They Are Sort of Social Friendly – While this forum has not been crafted to be friendly with most other social platforms, the webmasters here really like Twitter, and I think I know why. Twitter has (almost) no content restrictions and is one of the preferred platforms that pornstars use to get their content out to their loyal followers.
Adult DVD Forum allows you to include tweets in any of your posts, pictures and video included. However, you should be aware that there are a few restrictions, most of which are common sense. Still, I would again suggest that you look up the acceptable image policy before you post anything.
"I'll Tell You How To Sign Up Before I Sign Off
If you think you can take advantage of the information provided here (or have some info about the business that people need to hear), then get an account. The registration does take six steps which are a little long. Also, you will have to promise to hold up all rules and respect all final decisions of the moderators, but that is pretty much the gist of it.
This one gets a five-hand rating from me; what about you? If you agree, spread this all over your social media profiles and all that great stuff.
