I know what you’re thinking: “Porn Dude! A press release form? Really?”. Hear me out. This is important shit. I know that linking to press release forms might seem like I’m basically dicking you around, but this is an important form on an even more important site, provided you’re in the smut industry. AVN are one of the most important organizations in triple A pornography and not just for their award show. They’ve been the most influential pornographic magazine since the day they came out and keep in mind they’re much younger than Playboy, by several decades. There’s a huge difference between AVN and magazines like Playboy, though. Playboy offers content. AVN on the other hand exists to sort of document the porn world and review latest releases. It’s not a competitor to Playboy, it’s a sort of an overseer of the industry.
Now, towards the middle of the 21st century – yes, we’re really getting that old – AVN is as influential online as it is on paper. On the internet, the magazine exists as a blog. It’s not a replacement for their paperback version, but it does roughly perform the same job. You can see where I’m going with this. Their voice carries a ton of weight in the porn industry. Anything they post about is relevant, just because they say that it is relevant. Anything that is irrelevant has no chance of making it on the AVN site. That’s how simple it all is.
It’s Tough Competition
I’m not saying that if you can’t make it on AVN’s home page that you should give up on your dreams of being a porn webmaster. That’s absolutely not the case. You can be one of the most profitable names in porn, but remain in obscurity. That’s the problem with centralized sources of information like AVN. They’re a company, sure, but they’re a company run by people. So, if those people don’t like the smut that you’re producing, they might not be willing to throw you a bone.
As a young and budding entrepreneur, which I’ll just assume that you are, aiming to appear on AVN’s homepage is probably out of the question. But, fret not. Their press release upload section is not the main source for the articles that they post. In fact, it may not be a source for their articles at all, at least, not directly. From what I can surmise, the press release form encourages any and all porn webmasters to send them their details so they can be reviewed by the AVN team and possibly used in the future. It’s a bit desperate to depend on AVN as your sole advertising outlet. That’s not why I’ve got them on this list. It’s more about moving on up in the world when your porn empire has hit a certain milestone.
The Cream of the Crop
AVN are the best of the best in more ways that one so I wouldn’t really consider myself responsible if I don’t cover them at length, especially when it comes to the ability to send them a press release. You might think that it’s pointless to try to contact them considering how much spam mail they probably receive, but this is a set form that comes with a lot of sorting options for them. In short, you enter a bunch of information into the form that makes it easy for AVN to sort through all of the press release requests that they receive. In my opinion, the most important field is the URL that actually links back to your domain where you do all of your smut work. This gives them the ability to automatically sort through URLs making sure that they only give any time to sites that actually exist, to begin with. It’s really easy to just ignore all the submissions that don’t lead to a valid site. That’s why I have faith in this form. It filters out the garbage and makes sure that AVN only consider websites that actually have something to offer.
Speaking of which, if you’re running a second-rate referral site you probably don’t want to use this press release form. I don’t think they’re going to be singing your praises if you’re running some sort of spammy site riddled with ads and nonsense second rate content. You should reserve this form for the projects you’ve got that feature high quality original content. If you’ve got some sort of niche form of porn that people can only get on your site, that’s it, that’s the shit. That’s the kind of content you want to have a press release for. This can be a gold mine if you manage to find an untapped market of pornography that hasn’t quite been cornered by PornHub or whatever. It shouldn’t be too hard. There are all kinds of new types of pornography cropping up all-over the place, from many different countries.
Get Experimental with Your Content
Check smaller countries. Check their exports. There must be some kind of pornography that’s easy to package and even easier to peddle. Spruce up your website, make it look presentable and respectable, then apply for a press release on AVN. Have them talking about how you’re the hot new destination in porn. You could possibly blow the fuck up overnight if you play all of your cards right. Remember, it boils down to the content. Content is always key when it comes to high end pornography.
Now, AVN are kind of leaning heavily towards triple A pornography, so you’re a bit shit out of luck out the gate, but you can skirt your way around that popularity by being unique enough. You can’t be the next Brazzers, but don’t endeavor to be. Try to be the next … you. Try to be something or someone so unique that people in porn have to talk about you.
Try to offer something that no-one else does. Pave your own road, so to speak. This could be done most easily if you actually produce your own pornography, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. You could theoretically be a big shot by doing nothing more than peddling someone else’s porn, provided your domain is properly impressive. You have to do what you do better than anyone else. Avoiding ads is usually a good sign. Encouraging people to engage with your website is also a great idea. You want to make sure your site is organic and invites people to keep coming back for more.
Think Outside the Box
You don’t even have to be limited to video pornography. You could run a literary porn site or a gaming site with smut games. You could send out a press release to AVN regardless of the type of smut you peddle. I’m pretty fucking sure that they’re not going to judge you for being an outlier case. If anything, outlier porn sites are all the more interesting to talk about. They get the clicks. They interest people. You could be the next hottest thing since sliced bread, if you manage to make your site impressive enough. Focus on that ever-important retention rate. If people are sticking around on your site, you’re probably doing something right.
Beyond that, there’s not much to think about. I’d help you formulate your letter of intent, but there’s no need for that. The press release upload form is a form, as in, you fill in the fields and that’s that. You don’t have to bend over backwards worrying about what you’re going to say. Just lead them to all the right destinations and they’ll figure out the rest. Have a good domain, have the content on your domain, make sure that your load times are prim and proper and you’ll have a very good time.
Who knows, you might be the next top article on AVN. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but what the fuck do you have to lose? If you truly believe in the value of your operation then why not try to fight alongside the best of the best. Sure, the competition is tough, but like I said – you have nothing to lose by believing in yourself and your work. If you’re especially proud of the work that you do, you shouldn’t spare any expense in trying to spread the word about your operations.
As a closing point, I’d note that you should probably check out the content that’s already on AVN.Com just in case. You’d like to learn about the kinds of content they like discussing and maybe draw some inspiration from the competition. You never know what you could learn if you check out your contemporaries. There’s always room for improvement when it comes to being a porn webmaster. Learn from the greats then compete alongside them. Good luck.
