We’ll never have enough porn marketplaces, it seems. Everyone wants to beat out OnlyFans. That site really stirred up a storm. These days, everyone and their grandmother is on OnlyFans. Hell, even PornTube is pulling towards social media porn production. I’m not the only one that calls it that, by the way. You’ll see it openly referred to as “social media” all-over every terms of service page across these types of sub-sites. I call them sub-sites, because most of them are off-shoots of companies that were already around.
AVN, in particular, has been a magazine since the 80s. They’ve also been super active in reviews of films and clips. Then there’s also the AVN awards, which are legendary at this point. AVN know porn almost as well as I do and they’re certainly much older than me, in terms of how long they’ve been in business.
AVN Has Entered the Chat
Now, let’s talk about AVN Stars. It is straight-up a porn marketplace where anyone and everyone is welcome to sell porn of themselves. It’s AVN’s solution to a problem that doesn’t technically exist. Without social media porn sales, these people would be relegated to camwhores sites. This is the natural evolution of camwhoring. And yes, a lot of these sites support live streams, but that’s not what they’re built around. No, the focus is on clips. Whether they’re made for the public, or they’re custom, premium or free, it’s all about the clips.
There are images too, but who cares? Moving titties are better than static titties. Everyone knows that. So, if you know anything about OnlyFans or PornHub social, you know 99% of what you’ll need to handle AVN Stars. But, we need to get into how they’re different and what makes them stick out. I also have to cover the basics, because this is a thorough review. Be warned; there’s going to be a lot of repetition across these articles.
Becoming a Star
The star in AVN Stars refers to you, the creator. They’re encouraging you to think of yourself as a brand. They want to give you every opportunity to turn yourself into a celebrity in the world of adult entertainment. Naturally, you should pick a fake name for yourself. You don’t want to roll with the same name you’ve got on your driver’s license. The bottom line is that you start at the bottom and work your way to the top. Even though you’re technically competing against every other creator on the site, AVN isn’t trying to press you to compete, at least, not directly. You’re not getting pushed out. You’re getting promoted by AVN.
There’s a very simple premise that applies to all of these clip selling sites that really rings true – there’s always room for more stars. They have an interesting way of resolving the problem of saturation. You see, there are way too many people on this site already. There are tens of thousands of creators as far as I can tell. That number grows daily. So, how do they help everyone stay at least somewhat relevant? Well, they appeal to a wide demographic. More specifically, they appeal to different demographics with a wide spread of different types of content.
Narrow Down the Niche
The most popular camwhore on this site right now is a random hot chick who does findom videos. What are findom videos you might be asking? Well, they’re videos in which the girl teases you for having a small cock and an even smaller wallet. She encourages you to give her money; then she makes fun of you for following through with it. On top of that, if you’ve given her money before, she’ll call you out for it and refer to you as a stupid broke loser. It’s a weird fetish, to be sure. I personally don’t get it at all. But, it seems to be working. She’s making money hand over fist and people seem to love her content.
Now, you might be thinking that it makes sense that the findom bitch is on top. Her niche is all about people giving her money. What if I told you that other times I’ve visited the site, the top bitch has been a BBW, and then before that, I remember seeing a skinny bitch who did anal insertions? A while back, there was also a standard dominatrix who was raking in the big bucks. So, what’s the deal? How do you rise to the top on this site?
It’s simple. Forget the site. Forget the competition. Instead, focus on your fans. Cater to the people who are desperate to see more of you and listen to their requests. They’ll be more than willing to tell you what they want to see. Write down all of their requests and plan your videos in advance. Having a handful of people who are obsessed with your content is better than growing interest in thousands of people who are not going to pay you once the work is done. Your videos will end up sitting there, pointlessly. Fuck that. Cater to the people who open their wallets for you.
Some Useful Examples
You get your own profile page as a creator and that’s where you should spend most of your time when you’re optimizing for traffic and marketing. Now, I have some thoughts about this, judging by the first and second most popular findom bitches on this site. I know I’m going deep into findom with this review, but bear with me; it’s a good example.
You’ve got one girl charging a dollar per month per user. Then, there’s the other one charging $12.49. So, let’s play a game. Which one do you think is making more money? The answer? The girl who’s charging the single buck. How? Well, she’s got over 1800 followers. The other bitch has just over 120. Crunch the numbers and the cheaper babe is richer. But, how can you learn from this?
Well, the cheaper girl’s profile page has a picture of her wearing really awesome BDSM lingerie, glasses and a smirk. That’s it. That’s all she’s showing. I mean, you can see her face and some cleavage, but that’s it. There are no photos, no clips, no teasers. Nothing. She’s got some external Twitter links so you can see her on other sites, but other than that, her profile’s barren.
Now, back to the other girl, the more expensive one. Her profile is loaded with daily posts. You can see everything she’s been up to in the past few weeks. Hell, you can scroll down infinitely. You can’t play any of the videos, but you get the full-screen thumbnails. You know exactly what she’s posting and you can tell what you’re getting for the price. Your takeaway here is simple.
Pricing is Key
Decide the content you’re going to post and how much you’re going to charge for it, then populate your profile page accordingly. I’m not down with the whole empty profile shtick, but it works for this girl. Who knows; maybe she’d be making a lot less if she showed more skin before the signups. There’s literally no way of telling. Look at other models’ pages and try to learn the patterns. You don’t have to copy what they’re doing exactly, but at the very least try to get a feel of the way the wind’s blowing.
Personally, I’d start slow and make sure I had a ton of content before I start charging. But, that’s just me. I also don’t believe in $1 or $12 tiers. I think there’s a sweet spot down the middle. But, the niche seems to matter a lot more than the pricing, so couple them. If your videos actually cost a lot of money to produce, don’t be afraid of charging higher.
Just as an FYI, they let you keep 80% of everything you earn and they drop cash prizes for top models regularly. So, you’ve got a lot of opportunities to cash in.
The Site’s Design
This is where we start to see a huge difference between AVN Stars and other similar sites. Their design is nearly identical to that of Instagram, until you actually open up a person’s profile page. Then, it looks exactly like Twitter. You can clearly tell where they got their inspiration. I don’t blame them. The design looks great and helps you get around really quickly. I do, however, have some gripes with the backend. I don’t know why or how this keeps happening, but clicking on profile links doesn’t work. I have to open them in a new tab. I have no idea why.
Also, opening any new page is slow as fuck. I have no idea what they’ve done wrong. I’m on high-quality fiber optic net on a supercomputer. I shouldn’t have to deal with this shit.
All in all, AVN Stars are doing a great job competing in this market, though I think their site needs an urgent overhaul.
