Are you looking for a translating tool that does not have the name ‘Google’ in the title? If so, you have probably discovered that your options are limited. Google Translate is an awesome tool, but it probably does not have everything that you need. If only there was a tool that you could use that allowed you to get the same results that you do from awesome translators but was more feature-rich.
There is such a tool and it’s called DeepL Translator. It’s giving other translations tools out there a run for their fucking money. In some cases, some publications have even stated that DeepL Translator actually outperforms other translation tools out there. That’s a bold fucking statement. But it begins with how DeepL Translator actually manages to translate words, sentences, and your content as a whole.
Uses machine learning to translate texts and documents
DeepL Translator is able to translate words, sentences, phrases, and more so easily and accurately because of its approach to translation. It uses machine learning to properly learn and translate content instead of creating a 1:1 translation of words. If you have ever used Google Translate (and who has not?), you probably know exactly what the hell I am talking about.
When you translate content using Google Translate, you have probably realized that the content that is translated a lot of times does not make any goddamn sense. The words that are translated may be technically correct, but when you read them, they sound so fucking goofy. Context matters when it comes to translating; DeepL Translator realizes this.
The result is what many of the testimonials praise about DeepL Translator to begin with. They state that the tool captures the context of what is being translated. It would be ridiculous to claim that the tool gets it right all the time, when that clearly is not the case. It’s machine learning, so it is always improving. Still though, if you translate paragraphs of text, you will find that by and large, the text makes a lot of sense.
Try translating content between Google Translate and DeepLTranslator. I cannot tell you which tool will have the better results since that depends on the content you are translating. Still, what you will discover is that in most cases, the context is more accurate in DeepLTranslator. While you may have to edit and refine the translations in both tools, chances are that’s going to happen to a lesser degree with DeepLTranslator when it comes to context.
Is the tool better overall? That’s extremely debatable. It’s operated by a much smaller team and doesn’t even come close to having the same access to cutting-edge technology and advancements like Google. So let’s not pretend like the two are on the same level.
But at this moment in time, DeepLTranslator destroys Google when it comes to context. Word-for-word translations? That’s debatable. The amount of languages supported? Fucking forget about it, Google wins. But when you want hundreds or thousands of words that makes sense, DeepLTranslator is your go-to for those marathon translations.
You achieve this by uploading files to be translated. Instead of having to copy and paste every line of your document and format it just right, DeepLTranslator does the work for you. Simply add the file you want translated, wait for the results, and there you go! You have a new document that has been translated via machine learning. Because it’s in a document, this makes it easier than ever to format and edit the translation using your preferred word processor.
Can download offline DeepL Translator for Windows
Most of Google’s competitors in the translation niche only work on the Web. DeepL Translator leaps above most of its competitors and meets Google Translate nearly at its front doorstep. That’s because DeepL Translator offers an offline version, but only for Windows. Further, there is no mobile version available, which is a real drag.
To truly be competitive, DeepL Translator seriously needs an app – and now. Google Translate allows users to download language packs to use its app offline. DeepL Translator needs to do the same.
To its credit, the tool seems like it only started to expand into different languages within the last year. It’s a new tool, so growing pains do abide. Still, DeepL Translator needs to grow in this area to make it even more competitive.
Choose how words and phrases get translated
When you are in the middle of translating text on DeepL Translator, you may find yourself wishing that certain words and phrases are not accurate. You can fix this by replacing the word/phrase with the right variant. Fill in the proper information in the ‘replace’ and ‘with’ field, then choose the language you are translating. This will add the variant to the glossary.
At this time, only three languages are supported: English, French, and German. I expect that more languages will be added over time. As of this review though, this option is still limiting.
It shows you where DeepL Translator is probably heading. It’s convenient if you need to add corrections on the spot. It also works when you drag-and-drop your files to be corrected as well. It’s awesome; it just needs to support more languages.
Decent pro plans provided
If you want to get the most out of DeepL Translator, you need to consider subscribing to one of their premium tiers. Called DeepL Pro, this premium service is actually pretty damn affordable considering the perks that you get. For the Starter tier ($10.49 per month), you get five whole-file translations per month with a single glossary with unlimited entries. The Advance tier ($34.49 per month) gives you 20 whole-file translations per month with multiple glossaries with unlimited entries per user (the same applies on the Ultimate tier).
The Ultimate tier ($68.99) gives users 100 whole-file translations per month. Like the Advanced tier, users get CAT tool integration if that’s important. What applies to the rest of the plans is that users get unlimited text translations and the option to choose between informal and formal tone of translation. It actually matters, and can mean the difference between your translated text sounding professional and ignorant.
Unlimited text translations under Pro
Despite what perks you may appreciate in DeepL Pro, the biggest perk of all is available no matter which tier you choose. You get unlimited text translations with any of the Pro tiers. That is fucking awesome, and more than worth the cost of the cheapest tier. When you consider that DeepL uses machine learning to ensure that the translator is always improving, that’s pretty incredible shit.
As mentioned, the ability to customize the translation is goddamn impressive as well. Switching between tones is awesome. Even if you don’t know what kind of tone you want for your translation, you can leave it up to DeepL Translator by choosing automatic. You can even do this on the free version of the tool as well.
Translate to over 10 languages
Although the number of languages that you can translate to pales in comparison to Google Translate, it is still nothing to scoff at. DeepL Translator focuses on some of the most widely used languages out there. That includes English, Chinese (simplified), Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, and Spanish. It would be ideal if there were more languages that were supported, but if this is the list, it’s a strong one.
Unfortunately, some regions around the world are left out in the cold. This list isn’t going to satisfy everyone, but it’s a start. As recently several months before this review, DeepL Translator has announced several new languages. If they stay on this trajectory, they should have more than enough languages to satisfy the majority of translations before long.
Super simple translation
What is convenient about using DeepL Translator is what you can do with the data once you are finished translating. The tool gives you the option to have the entire goddamn thing read to you aloud! This is helpful when you are trying to pronounce words in addition to translating them. From there, DeepL Translator also allows you to copy the translation so you can paste it into another document. Likewise, you can download the translation or share it with others.
However you choose to decide to use the translation, know that thanks to machine learning, it’s going to be a damn accurate translation that will surely impress. Try it out today, and get excellent translation solutions whenever you need them. There are plenty of options to make the tool worth your while, so give it a shot!
